15 Minute PD {SOL 4-21-15}

If you are looking for some daily inspiration and are an early riser, you need to check out the Twitter chat #BFC530.   (5:30am EDT)

This 15 minute chat is just the dose of daily inspiration I need to start my day.  The topic is different every day and in just a short amount of time, I make connections and gain insights from others around the country and around the world.  I learn something every day!

Today's topic was about the reading and writing connection.  I was able to call on my classroom experience and my knowledge base from working with my local Writing Project to put together about 12 tweets in the 15 minutes.  I made two book recommendations, wrote about mentor texts and connecting the read aloud to writing.  I learned more about RAFTS in the content areas and writing data.

Participating in this chat is early, it's actually 4:30am for me here in the CST, but it is worth it.  It may be a tiny 'slice' of my day, but it carries me through.  It is 15 minutes of professional development every day.

  1. This chat sounds like a good way to wake up your writer brain. I already feel like 5:00 is too early for me to get up. I may read the # later so I can sleep.

  3. OK. This sounds PERFECT for me!!!! What does the hashtag stand for? I have seen some tweets, but I didn't know what it was for so I didn't join. Thank you for the invitation. I am OFTEN awake and looking for inspiration at 5AM. We can FLY into the day together!! LOL!

  5. I see Michelle saw this. That is right up her alley!

    Any time you see a tweet from me at 5:30 a.m., it's either pre-posted or I'm in a school that day. Now that I'm out of the classroom -- as a consultant -- I try to avoid getting up before 6 a.m. whenever possible. (That said, I used to be a member of the 5:00 a.m. wake-up club when I taught and I would've been all over that chat had it existed back then!)

  6. Thanks for telling about this, Jennifer. I will look, but it might not fit with my time frame. Happy for you!
